A colic-y baby makes the newborn stage anything but what you imagined.
I know for us, I wish I had known how to make it easier.
I wish I had known what I actually needed to survive colic as a new mom.
But instead we went through a lot of trial and error during the near three months that our little lady bug had colic.
Over those three months, we learned a lot. You can read about surviving colic here.
After Kendall (finally) grew out of her colic, we had found our three holy grails for colic. And I need to share them with you guys!
I am always seeing questions in my many mom groups about how to deal with colic or what you can do.
Well- the following three things are your best bet to coming out ON TOP of colic!
Survive the chaos with colic must haves!
***First, a disclaimer. I am NOT a doctor by any means! I am simply a momma who went through the troubles of a colic-y baby and am sharing what I learned with you. I advise to reach out to a medical professional if you have any doubts about your baby!***
Number 1: Swaddles
A tight swaddle will help a colic-y baby calm down. They were tightly contained while in the womb, so it only makes sense that a tight swaddle would help now that they’re in the real world! It will also help them stay asleep as they won’t jerk their hands uncontrollably and wake up. A tight swaddle is also nice for holding baby close and letting her know she is okay and you are here for her.
Our favorite were the SwaddleMe Swaddle Blankets. However, I have listed a few different options that I have heard GREAT things about!
Number 2: Swing
The movement of the swing is a handsfree way of comforting and soothing baby to sleep. The back and forth movement is relaxing and the handsfree time allows you to be hands on with the other twin.
The one that I used for Kendall is the most expensive on my list below- but all of these are wonderful options! Essentially you need something that will keep baby moving while she sleeps. I liked the first one because it also had lights at the top that Kendall could watch as she swang and fell asleep.
Number 3: Rock N Play
A Rock N Play is any parents dream come true. A safe place for their newborn to sleep! And they are easy to rock, or offer premium options such as auto rocking or even smart phone capabilities!
A little twin hack for Rock N Play’s- loop a scarf through a leg from each R&P and lay down on the couch or your bed and rock them both to sleep! My husband brought that one to the table and I hate to admit it, but it is an awesome hack!
I have listed a few great options below. We opted for plain-jane ones for the twins. However, I have heard that the smart phone capable one is fantastic! You can start rocking it right from your phone!
