The scariest part of leaving the house with twins is whether you have everything you might need.
A well packed diaper bag is your key to survival.
Follow along and at the end of this post is a free diaper bag checklist!
This past weekend my husband and I took our first real outings with the twins and I must have checked their bag twenty times before we left! And then on one of the trips, I forgot their bottles! Luckily we didn’t end up needing them, but I was so anxious once I noticed I forgot them.
How could I do that?! Couldn’t of had anything to do with trying to get ourselves and two infants out the door without the dogs sneaking out behind us, right? No way.
Because of that could-have-been-shit-show mistake, I decided to create a diaper bag checklist to share with you guys! Hopefully it can help both of us prevent getting to Red Robin’s and realizing we forgot to repack more diapers.
Diaper Bag Essentials
First off- you’re going to want a backpack. Or at least a backpack-style diaper bag.
I know those shoulder diaper bags are just SO cute, but function over form when it comes to twins. Always.
You’re going to regret that adorable teal diaper bag the first time the single strap starts to slide off your shoulder while you’re carrying both car seats into the doctors office. Just get a backpack.
I decided to spend money on other twin things and just use a backpack from my strange collection of bags.
Okay, now for what goes inside the bag!
Essentials:
- 6-10 Diapers
- Wipes (replace when package is half full, you will use them for much more than poopy butts!)
- 2-3 Burp Cloths
- 2 Receiving Blankets/Swaddles
- 1-2 Outfits (each)
- Themometer
- Bulb Sucker
- 2-3 Sets of Nipple Pads (leaking at the grocery store is no fun)
- T-Shirt for yourself
- 2-4 Bottles (if you bottle feed)
Optional Items:
- Binkies (if your babies use them)
- Nursing Bra (I have leaked through while out and about before and it is very uncomfortable to walk around with cold, wet boobs)
- Snacks for Yourself
- Nipple Shield (if you use one)
- Nursing Cover
- Your Wallet
Making sure you bring those essential items above should lead to a pretty successful trip out of the house!
