This past weekend I packed the twins into the car and met up with a friend and her boys at the Roloff Family Pumpkin Patch in Hillsboro, Oregon.
It turned out to be a surprisingly fun experience, even with the twins!
To be completely honest, I was very nervous going into the Roloff farm with toddlers. Going most new places alone as a twin mom scare the crap out of me. But the Roloff Farm was extremely family friendly, and well prepared for children of all ages. Even my nearly walking 13 month olds!
As a mom of twins, I feel like the first thing I should mention is the parking situation. I know that for me, parking can be a deal breaker for even the best of places. I need to be able to get in and out of all doors of my car. Luckily, the parking situation is great, even when they get busy! There is plenty of room to feel comfortable getting in and out of the car with littles and a massive stroller. Best of all?? It is FREE!
Now for the actual farm, everything is laid out exactly how you would imagine it to be.
Walking up to the farm you are first met with the farm store, where you can purchase tickets for the Kids Adventure Zone (HIGHLY recommend!!) but admission to the farm itself is completely free. The prices for the Adventure Zone seemed pretty steep to me at first, being completely honest. Though 2 and under is free, you still have to pay for yourself to get into the Zone.
The tickets range from $9-14 (as of Fall 2018).
The most inexpensive pass is $9, and it grants you access to the Adventure Zone. Then $10 gives you admission to the 30 minute wagon tour around their entire property. And finally, $14 gives you access to both.
I opted for the Adventure Zone ticket as taking the twins on the wagon ride wasn’t something I felt up to by myself. If my husband would have been there, I would have felt more comfortable going on the ride but a 30 minute tour with one year olds did not sound like something they’d enjoy.
As for the Adventure Zone, I lost all doubt for the price after entering the play area. There was SO much to do. And there is no time limit. So you could easily spend an entire day inside of the carnival like play area.
This year they were offering;
- Hay Pyramid
- Kiddy Train
- Spooky Forest Trail Loop
- Tarantula Track
- Bamboo Maze
- Giant Sling Shots
- Giant Tire Zone
- Exotic Animals
- Petting Zoo
- Pony Hops
- Putt Putt Golf
- Rail Roller
- Little Lucy’s Ball Race
Now alllll of that for only $9? That was well worth it to me. Kendall and Caeden weren’t old enough yet for most of the fun. But they did have a good time looking at the animals, playing in the hay, and enjoying all of the other kids running around!
The entire area is also stroller/wheel chair accessible. So walking them around while my friends boys played wasn’t too difficult!
Aside from the Adventure Zone, the Roloff Farm offers face painting, pony rides, and has a great assortment of food carts.
The farm is a lot like a mini carnival!
The food carts featured coffee, ice cream, strawberry lemonade, pork sliders, tacos, just about everything you’d find at a carnival.
Then of course they have pumpkins.
The farm itself, however, is not set up as a traditional pumpkin patch. They harvest the pumpkins themselves and bring them out to an area inside of the farm for people to walk through and pick what they like.
I personally liked that they offered pumpkins in this way as all of them were in good shape, and I could easily let the twins run free around the already picked pumpkins because they were just placed on grass. I didn’t have to worry about mud or sharp stems for them to hurt themselves on.
The pumpkin set up also led to some pretty adorable pictures.
All in all, I highly recommend taking a trip to the Roloff farm with toddlers this season! If you are in the PNW, it is worth the trip. Plus, you might see a Roloff and I am told they are always ready for t-shirt signing and pictures!
