I decided it was time to finally get the help I am worth when I was sobbing in my car, parked in front of my local hospital. Things were dark. I was scared. I was terrified of what was going on inside of my head and I desperately wanted it to stop.
The next day, I drove myself to a mental health outpatient clinic near me and began my mental health journey. I was soon diagnosed Bipolar and started medication along with therapy.
The thing I was most worried about when starting my journey was how it would affect my twins. I was worried that I could never be enough of a mother that they deserve. Over the following months after my diagnosis, however, I came to realize that what I was doing, working on my mental health, was the best possible thing I could do for them to become the best version of myself as a woman and mother.
Therapy has been a key tool in working towards a better lifestyle living with Bipolar. I’ve learned a lot about myself and those around me. I honestly think I am starting to see the world differently and more clearly. Therapy along with medication have been my saving grace.
And now I’ve taken the leap to online therapy. They seemed like a great mental health resource for moms so I went for it! I’ve began my journey with BetterHelp and though I am new to the platform, I am really enjoying it. I’ll be updating you all along the way through the blog and social media, but from where I’m at I can honestly say it is worth a try.
I’ve began working with a counselor that I adore and feel a connection with. I feel that she understands me and truly wants to help. She even replies to my messages throughout the day, which I can’t even begin to express how comforting that is. To just have someone there.
