DIY Sidewalk Chalk Paint
I have been loving the sunshine lately. I mean, today it is all doom and gloom. But the last couple weeks have been beautiful and have honestly been filling my cup more than I knew I needed.
We’ve been spending a lot more time outdoors, where I can work at the patio table and the twins can run around getting into whatever they find. We have even built a little section of the backyard up for them with play equipment and some of their favorite outside toys. But something I’ve been loving lately if finding new, fun ways for the twins to play.
I’ve found some really great creative ideas for toddlers, and I stack them all inside of this Pinterest board if you’re interested in following along.
But the latest activity the twins have fallen in love with is DIY sidewalk chalk paint.
I love it because it is super cheap and easy to throw together, and then the twins love it because I give them free rein to get however creative they want to be! Which in turn, creates another reason why I love it. I get some SPACE!
That is all we can ask for when stuck at home during the sunny months, right? Some room to breathe? Especially as a work from home mom, I take all of these kinds of toddler activity hacks seriously.
Here is, literally, all you have to do to throw the DIY sidewalk chalk paint together.
- Pull out some paintbrushes, baby powder, water, a handful of small cups and food coloring
- Combine a 1:1 ratio of water and baby powder in little cups (I mixed 1 cup of water and 1 cup of baby powder together and then poured the mixture into the little bowls)
- Add in a few drops of food coloring to each cup to create the colored paint (watch out for the blue dye. One drop will do you good!)
- Go at it!
I’ve been laying out a few of the DIY sidewalk chalk paint cups in separate areas around the patio so each of my toddlers has their own spot to paint. The chalk paint also works well on fences, and easily washes off, so that has been fun for them. I imagine they think they’re coloring on the forbidden walls, and that is what makes it exciting!
Either way, this sidewalk chalk DIY has been a favorite over here for the last couple weeks and I needed to share it with ya’ll!
