As a new mom, grocery shopping is something I hardly have time for. Not to mention, dragging newborn twins to the store is no piece of cake.
When my babies first came home, I got into a bad habit of running to the grocery store on a whim and grabbing whatever I saw. As you can assume, that got very expensive and we still didn’t have enough items to make a weeks worth of meals.
Then I saw an ad for Fred Meyer’s new ClickList and decided why not give it a go?! They were offering the first three services for free which was even more of a plus!
I was very impressed after my first experience.
Here is what is so awesome about ClickList-
You can…
- shop from HOME
- compare sale items right on your computer screen
- meal plan off of real time store prices
- purchase anything your local store has on hand- apparel, housewares, beauty items, ect.
- use store coupons loaded to your card AND paper coupons
- pick a convenient pick up time up to three days in advance
- save money by not browsing the whole store
- and the best one- they load your car up for you!
Now that I have used ClickList a few times, I have found that it has made meal planning (and saving money) a breeze!
This is the run down of how I shop with ClickList, and how I maximize each step I take to make great meals and save money!
Shopping with ClickList:
Before we get started, make sure you have a Freddies account. You can log in or sign up here. You’ll also want to have your paper coupons and grocery list(if you made one) near by.
Start by adding savings!
Once you have logged in, you’ll want to click over to the savings section and click on savings center. That will take you to the digital coupons! Go ahead and add store coupons to your store card. I generally add anything that I just might purchase.
When you finalize your purchase and pick up your items, the coupons you load to your store card will automatically deduct.
Next, start a shopping list by browsing the Ad and clicking on the items you’d like to remember later.
*note* your shopping list and ClickList cart are different. Treat the Freddies shopping list as you would your normal grocery list.
Now you are ready to start shopping!
In another tab, open up ClickList.
You are going to want to reserve your pick up time first. At the top of the page you will see your store selection and a quick way to select the next available pick up time. If you want same day pick up, order before 3pm.
If you want a time other than the next available, select reserve a time under the welcome to clicklist banner in the middle of the screen.
Now you are going to start adding items to your cart. I like to start in the ‘meat department’ and go from there.
I browse the sale items and decide what meals I would like to make for the week. For example, this week the 3lb ground beef rounds were on sale for $5.61 EACH. Knowing that will mean about three meals for us, and what we already had in the pantry and fridge, I decided on tacos, chili and spaghetti with meat sauce.
That right there is why I love using ClickList. I decided on three dinners for my husband and I in less than a minute!
Okay so now you’re going to want to continue to shop. To add items to your cart, you can either browse by department (like above) or search for individual items.
Go between your own grocery list and the one you made on the Fred Meyer website to add everything you need to your cart. You’ll see a real time total for your cart in the mean time, which I think is super helpful!
Now that you have added everything you need and want to your cart, you can click on the proceed to check out on the bottom right side of your screen and see your whole cart.
Checking Out is a Breeze!
This is where I will decide if I really need everything I put in there based on what my total says. If you are over budget, all you have to do is remove an item. Not embarrassing at all! (huuuuge plus for those short weeks!)
At this point you can also decide if you want to allow substitutions or not. The box is always pre-checked, so go through and uncheck anything you don’t want subbed. You can also put a little note such as ‘sub with sugar free rockstar’ or ‘$10 of pork chops max’. I always allow subs because typically if they’re out of something, they’ll give you the better item for the same price. I ordered NOS that was on sale for a $1 each last week and they subbed Rockstars (1.99 each) for the same sale price!
Now you are done and ready for checkout! All you have to do is put your card information in and submit!
You might see a pending charge on your bank card for the real time total, however, you will not be charged until you pick up and that is when the coupons come off.
Now all that is left is pick up!
When you get to the ClickList pick up, you’ll call the number posted and they will bring out your itemized list, receipt and groceries.
Before they load your car they will go over with you if there were any missing items or substitutions. This is also when you can give them your paper coupons. This is also when I double check that the coupons I loaded to my card came off the total as well.
Once all is cleared, the clerk will load your car and off you go! You don’t even need to put on real shoes for this 🙂
