Moving with babies can be stressful.
Like, the thought alone gave me more anxiety than I care to admit during our first move with babies. But here we are, one year later and we’re moving again.
Gotta love apartment life!
While we work towards saving up to buy a home one day, we’re stuck in this rut of moving and let’s just say last time, we learned a LOT.
But this time around we are more prepared with the what to do and not to do when moving with littles.
Here are a few of my best tips for moving with babies!
And don’t forget to scroll down to the end of this post. I’m sharing a one month checklist for your move geared towards families with littles.
1. Start slow.
Don’t dive right into the big stuff. I promise, the kids will get in the way and then everything is out the window. Start with cleaning and organizing the house. Throwing out what you don’t need. Then get to the bigger packing items when you have some help.
2. Save baby stuff for last, but set them up first.
Never start with their stuff. Somehow, they will end up needing it all and you’ll waste your time packing and unpacking! Save everything for last, then take it all over to the new house first so that you can prep their belongings and ease them into their new living situation. Plus it will them a place to be while you are moving if you set up their room first.
3. Throw out what you don’t need
A big must for any move, with or without kids. But don’t waste your time and boxes bringing along what you don’t need. And that goes for kid stuff also! Time to get rid of the too small clothes and outgrown toys.
4. Create “moving weekend” bags for the whole family
These bags make getting into your new house a breeze. Essentially I just pack up what I would bring if we went on vacation. The essentials. And we’re good to go while we spend time unpacking instead of looking for the lost clothes who knows where!
5. Ask for help one day per week for success
Packing during nap time just won’t cut it. It’s too loud, and you have too much going on. I really suggest getting help one day a week. Just for a few hours so that you can bust out a weekly task without any distraction.
6. Clean as you go
This will save you a ton of time later! Especially if you’re paying a babysitter during your move!
7. Hire a sitter for them during your move
Whether it is family or an actual paid babysitter, find someone willing to help keep your littles occupied during the move. It might not be something you think about before hand, but it is very necessary if you want to move quickly and efficiently!
I hope these tips set you up for a solid move, and check back over the next couple weeks! I’ll be sharing my ultimate move out cleaning to-do list along with tips specifically for moving with twins!
