What is your least favorite chore?
Mine is tackling laundry.
Why do I hate laundry? Well because it never ends!!
Think about it- you could have all the time in the world to do laundry. It could be the ONLY chore. But it still would never be 100% done.
By the time you sort through everything, you have lights, darks, colors, towels, bedding, blankets, work clothes and the list just goes on and on!
SO MUCH LAUNDRY.
When I became a SAHM, it is honestly what bugged me the most. Of all the chores I do on a regular basis- laundry became the enemy.
Finding a good routine for it all seemed impossible because of the massive amounts of laundry from now having twins!
That is until I figured out three steps that lead to stress free laundry.
I have to remind myself of the three steps all of the time and they seriously take the laundry load stress off of my shoulders when I start over thinking about the laundry.
Here are my three steps to tackling laundry:
-
Accept that it will never be done 100%
The first step to tackling laundry is to find it in yourself to accept that it’ll never be done. Little bits will be done at a time. Like the clothes one day, blankets the following and towels the next. Whatever routine works good for you!
-
Tackle one part of laundry at a time
The next step is to just focus on one part at a time. You don’t want to be doing laundry all. day. long. Who has time for that? You got other things going on momma! What works best in my daily routine is throwing a set in the wash in the morning and then tossing it in the dryer when I’m getting dinner going. I end up folding the load either after the twins go to sleep or the next morning. I’ll even just leave it until the next load is dry so I can fold it all at once.
-
Actually put the laundry away
The last tip is the most important- PUT IT AWAY! How are you going to feel less stressed about laundry if the clean stuff is just piled up next to the dirty stuff? If your clothes are just everywhere throughout the house, you’re always going to be laundry-stressed. Make a big change and get the laundry put away. Doesn’t have to be right after you fold it, but take the five minutes before bed or while the twins are waking from a nap to just get the crap put away! Less clutter will alllllways make a momma feel better! Especially as a SAHM when you’re surrounded by it 24/7.
I hope my laundry tips help you tackle the massive amounts of laundry in your life and help de-stress you a bit!

So helpful! I HATE doing the laundry now and I’m dreading how much worse it’ll be after my baby is born. These tips were great 🙂

Kelly,
Thank you for the feedback! Trust me, stay on top of your laundry from the beginning and it won’t be so overwhelming! Congrats by the way!

I HATE laundry, also. I had a good system going, but when I had surgery back in March, my husband was on laundry duty for a week, and I can’t seem to catch back up! My biggest issue currently — aside from the broken dryer — is putting it away when it’s done! I have 4 baskets FULL of clean clothes just hanging out.

Oh mine’s definitely laundry too…it just never ends! Your tips are great, especially when it comes to putting it away. That is where I go wrong every time. Thanks for sharing!

Laundry is literally my worst nightmare. I have every aspect of it. Putting it up is the HARDEST part. I’ve gotten better about it, but it still sucks. Thanks for the tips because I definitely feel like I’m drowning in baby shirts and pajamas sometimes.

Shelley,
Thank you for the feedback! The drowning is real; I feel it too! Focus on one thing at a time and celebrate the little bits you DO get done!

Megan,
I totally agree! Letting go of the laundry gilt is HARD. But once you do, the overwhelmingness of the laundry will subside!

Ariel,
Oh jeez, husband duty is the worst. If the kids are old enough, have them help put the laundry away! Put aside your need for perfect folds and drawers. Just get it all shut away so you don’t have to look at it anymore! Best of luck!

Number three is my favorite — If you don’t put the stuff away, it only adds to the overwhelm (at least for me)!
Lynneah says
Jen,
That is SO true! You have to finish the task to be able to move on!

I find that washing and drying the clothes is fine with me. Folding and putting clothes in the assigned area is where I have a problem… Lol it’s a weekly struggle. 🙁
Lynneah says
Amir,
I think the putting away is what gets everyone! But the stress won’t leave until you finish the chore! At least that is what I tell myself.
