You want to know what makes me want to rip my hair out more than anything else?
Teething twins.
Especially teething twins that have zero reaction to standard teething remedies.
You know the list.
- Tylenol and other meds
- Teething toys
- Frozen teething toys
- Sofia the Giraffe
- Teething jewelry
None of those things have ever worked for the twins. I have tried and tried. Nothing. I swear they are resilient to medication!
So I have had to get crafty and think outside the box.
When they start screaming I basically just throw things at them and hope for the best. LOL!
But I have gotten tons of ideas from my local mom group, most of which have worked great!
I have already talked about one of the items before. It is the only thing I actually swear by.
Teething oil.
I know, I thought it was some kind of hippy crap at first too. But with two babies screaming at you all day long- you will try anything.
Within seconds of rubbing some on the twins gums they were quiet. That stuff is MAGIC!
I have a whole review post on it here.
But aside from the teething oil, here are a few other off the wall teething remedies!
13 Teething Remedies Your Mom (probably) Didn’t Tell You About
-
Frozen Food
This is a super quick and easy way to feed them and soothe them at the same time. Kendall and Caeden love frozen waffles and pancakes!
-
Frozen towels (wet them first and stick them in the freezer)
Another frozen thing that WORKS! I wring a hand towel out and fold before putting it into the freezer. Then its something chilled for baby to chew on! It is my back up when I run out of frozen snacks.
-
Teether Cookies (warning: can get messy!)
This is a good option if you are out and about. Snacks are just always a good option! I like these teething cookies:
-
Toothbrush (baby or not)
This is also good for working on brushing those new teeth and gums! They can work on holding the tooth brush in their mouths by chewing on the end. My twins even like chewing on the handle!
-
Binky
You probably already have this one! Caeden only wants his binky while he is teething. I think the sucking motion helps soothe his gums!
-
Whole Celery/Carrot
I found this trick from a few of my local mom friends. They swear by it! Make sure to scrub the veggies and let your little teethers munch on them. They are too difficult for your babies to actually bite chunks off of but I would still keep any eye out. Better safe than sorry!
-
Beef Jerky Circles
Another snack hack. Beef jerky is way too tough for baby to get a chunk off. Instead they get the flavor and its a pretty solid snack for them to chew on. Plus you can eat the rest of the bag!
-
Baltic Amber Salt Necklaces
I personally have not tried the necklaces, however, I have heard many moms rave about them! Here is one I that Amazon recommends!
-
Silicone Straws
This was an accidental find! My twins love all straws, but I ordered some silicone straws off of Amazon to use myself and they have been a hit with the twins! Kendall finds the most joy in them. She wiggles them around and chews on them. Here are the ones that I purchased:
-
Wipes
I am not sure why, but the twins loves wipes. I purchase the unscented Huggies wipes and they both chew on them. I am not sure if this is necessarily ‘safe’ however, as a twin mom we gotta do what we can!
-
Harder Plastic Dog Toys
OOPS. This was an accident for sure. But the twins always go after our German Shepherds toys! So I figured why not. They are a harder plastic than baby toys so that might be it? Or maybe they just like that the dog uses them? Who knows. It works.
-
A Drink ( for you)
Okay so not for THEM but mama, you have to take care of yourself too! Get through teething with your vice of choice. Whether it be tea, iced coffee, milkshakes, margaritas, wine, whatever. Maybe it’s not a drink. Maybe its snacks for yourself, ear phones to block it out for five or ten minutes. You have to help yourself before you can help them.
-
Teething Oil
And last- that teething oil I mentioned earlier! This is always my first go to before anything else. I take it with me when I go places. I have no clue how it works. Maybe its the oils, maybe its the weird texture, or maybe it is the taste. Whatever it is- you will be GRATEFUL for it. Here is the direct link on Amazon so you can try it for yourself:
Did you find something new? Anything you want to try right away?
I would love to hear your feedback!
Or if you have some other off the wall teething remedies, go ahead and share in the comments! Save another mama’s sanity.
