Why is Self Care Important for Moms?
We should all know by now just how important self care is for us moms.
And I am so tired of the whole “take a shower” “eat a hot meal” “get dressed” bs that is often spewed out as self care ideas for moms.
Meeting your basic needs is NOT self care. And that is not what you’re going to find here.
Self care is important for moms to feel like they’re actual people. YOU deserve to feel like a real person and not just the shell of a being while you’re holding the role of “mom”.
You are a whole ass beautiful person and you deserve to treat yourself as such!
So here are some easy daily self care ideas for moms that are more than taking a freaking shower and eating real food.
Let’s get to it.

Daily Self Care Ideas for Moms
1. Make daily affirmations a REAL THING!
I think affirmations are so important when it comes to self care and showing yourself some self love as a mom. It is so easy to get lost in the role of “mom” and end up losing yourself along the way.
I know I did.
Then in 2020 my therapist suggested getting up in the morning and telling myself GOOD things about myself such as “I am important”, “I am powerful”, and “I am loved” in order to crawl out of the miserable pit I was in. When I am telling you I had to fake it like crazy to get to a point where I started to believe the things, don’t think I am joking for a moment.
I literally had to fake it till I made it and if that is what you have to do too, so be it.
Here are a few daily affirmations that helped me:
- I believe in myself and my dreams
- I am doing my best
- I love myself for who I am (or, I am working on loving myself for all that I am)
- I am in charge of my happiness and do not let it be dependent on others
- I accept my past, present, and future self
- I am worthy of love
- I am worthy of good things
2. Give yourself some small gifts
This doesn’t mean give yourself a monetary gift every single day, it just means give yourself something you’ll thank yourself for everyday. It can be as simple as prepping for the zoo the night before because you know you’ll feel thankful for it in the morning. It can also be as simple as buying yourself those lovely flowers at the market. Small things go a very long way in my book and there is something so special about doing those small things for yourself.
You don’t have to wait around for someone to do them for you!
3. Rest
I know. I know.
Easier said than done for us moms.
But seriously. Any chance you get to get some rest, even 20 minutes of it, TAKE IT! This can play into the small gifts you can give yourself too. I bet if you scheduled out your time differently or changed some priorities around you’d have a bit more time for some solid rest in your schedule.
4. Check out some inspirational books and podcasts
I put this off all of the time but when I truly focus on getting some reading time or podcast time in during the day, I am SO much happier!
Here are a few books I’ve loved:
Fierce, Free, and Full of Fire

I am about to start reading Atomic Habits and I have heard AMAZING things about it. Check it out here.
5. Invest in quality products and thank yourself later
I am not saying you need to buy the new fancy $200 toaster, but buying a quality toaster when you do need one is something you will always thank yourself for. Same goes for clothing. Not only will it feel better having something you know will last, but you save yourself the inconvenience of having to replace things all the time. Not to mention the expense of replacing things!
I hope this likes of daily self care ideas for moms has helped you figure out a few things you can add into your everyday life to support your mental health and overall happiness!
